About Linda MacDougall Penner

Counsellor, MA, MEd, CCC, RCT (she/her)

I have had the privilege for over 20 years of guiding and supporting individuals, couples, and families in settings including counselling agencies, EAP contracts, Indigenous communities, post-secondary institutions, skills training facilities, and private practice. For the past 14 years, I have practiced as a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC) with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association, and a Registered Counselling Therapist (RCT) with the Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists.

My hope is to provide a safe, respectful, judgment-free atmosphere grounded in Attachment Theory and Trauma-Informed practice. Here, individuals, couples, and families can explore and identify areas of challenge and hurt in their lives and relationships, and move towards well-being and connection. I offer a variety of modalities based on your needs and preferences, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Narrative Therapy, Mindfulness and Somatic-based therapies, Emotionally Focused Family Therapy (EFFT),Gottman Couples Therapy, Play Therapy, incuding Level II Sandtray Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). You are the expert on you; your agency and safety are key to moving forward, and we will work together to find the combination that works best for you.

In addition to my professional experience, I have graduate studies in cross-cultural communication as well as counselling, and I love to experience and learn from travel and other cultures, love to be outside, especially anywhere near the water (nowhere better than in my native Cape Breton). I am also a mother and wife, a pet lover, and a fellow human who understands that life can be unfair, unjust, surprising, and painful. We are all just trying to make the best of it.
